Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) is the central nodal agency for the prevention and control of vector borne diseases i.e. Malaria, Dengue, Lymphatic Filariasis, Kala-azar, Japanese Encephalitis and Chikungunya in India. It is one of the Technical Departments of Directorate General of Health Services, Government of India.
Project Description
SAMS undertook this project to study the rational use of DDT supplies to Assam, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan & Uttar Pradesh, their safe storage, transportation and utilization by the states with a mechanism to plug the loopholes in the pilferage at different levels and suggest remedial measures to be undertaken by the Directorate of NVBDCP. In this study carried out in the 12 districts, relevant data for DDT supplies was collected from NVBDCP Directorate. Structured questionnaires were prepared for discussions and interviews with health officials engaged in transportation, storage and spraying were held, to assess their knowledge and practices being followed in the field.
Review Teams comprising of Supply Chain Experts duly guided by persons with good knowledge of IRS activities were deputed for each of the State. Visits were undertaken by SAMS Team to the selected districts and at least two PHCs were identified based upon high consumption & stock of DDT. Data pertaining to supplies of DDT, availability of DDT Stocks at various stocking points, its utilization for spray activities undertaken in district, and reconciliations thereof were collected and validated.
The gaps noticed, practices being followed in the field and key observations and recommendations were highlighted in the report submitted to the Directorate. Presentation before Mandate Committee in respect of key observations & recommendations in respect of Audit of DDT.
